<note>Commonly oil and gas industry use different types of pipelines material. High corrosion resistance is the key factor for such popularity of pipelines material. A passive layer inside surface is the important factor in preventing corrosion and preserving the metal from corrosion damage. In this study, Inconnel 625 overlay weld on carbon steel pipe welded joints are used to perform pitting immersion tests to demonstrate the pitting susceptibility of pipeline materials. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM G48) guidelines for pitting corrosion tests were utilize to create real conditions in the laboratory. Pitting corrosion behaviors of Inconnel 625 overlay weld on carbon steel pipe welded joints of varying thickness (1.2, 1.0, 0.5 mm) were investigated. Confirmed through chemical composition analysis which shows that the chemical composition content of iron (Fe) exceeds the maximum limit of the ASTM B444 reference, namely 24.58% in the first layer and 6.40% in the second layer where the maximum value determined by the reference above is 5.0%, and also Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy testing which shows the iron (Fe) content value of 27.5% -32.3% in the first layer and 7.2% -8.8% in the second layer. The increased susceptibility of the Inconnel 625 overlay weld on carbon steel pipe welded joints to pitting corrosion was due to high Iron (Fe) content which cause higher iron dilution.</note>
